January 17th & 18th

The last day of first semester is January 24th, with second semester starting on Tuesday, January 29th. There is no school scheduled for Friday, January 25th or Monday, January 28th as of now. Enjoy the four day weekend as we get ready for the last semester before summer vacation.
Spokane Publid Schools has implemented staff development time throughout the district on various Fridays throughout the year. September 14th and September 28th are the first two we have scheduled. Spokane School District students will be released from NEWTech early to catch their bus for the 1:15 dismissal time at their home high school. Students from sending districts will be here until their normal dismissal time. SPS students are encouraged to stay in class for the remainder of the class time instead of leaving early, providing they have reliable transportation to do so. Feel free to let us know if you have any questions.
We are so excited to meet so many new faces, and welcome back some familiar ones on
Thursday, August 30th - our first day of school! We will begin the year with team building activities and class expectations, as well as introduce our new culinary instructor! It's going to be a great year with lots of fun and exciting changes to look forward to. Feel free to email or call Ms. Proud if you have any questions. Contact information can be found in the "About" section of this website. See you soon and enjoy the last few days of summer! It is with deep regret that I inform you about a recent loss to our NEWTECH culinary community. On Saturday, May 19th we learned of the sudden and unexpected passing of one of our students, Chris Goode. This loss has raised many emotions, especially in our morning class and for our fellow Mt. Spokane students.
On Monday, May 21st the Spokane Public Schools crisis team spent the morning with our students to help them through this difficult time. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Kari Duffy, our director, or any of our office support team at 509.354.7470 if you have any questions or would like to discuss anything. Chef D or Ms. Proud can also be contacted via email or at 509.354.7419 for support, questions, or concerns. We are so saddened by this sudden loss to our school and our culinary/hospitality family. Please know we are here to support our students in any way we can during this difficult time. Sincerely, Kathleen Proud & Janet Divelbiss Congratulations to Sophie Anderson from our AM class and Carter Thurston from our PM class for displaying outstanding Integrity - the theme for January's Student of the Month!
Each month at NEWTECH we honor students that display outstanding 21st century and employability skills - things that we value and encourage in all of our students.
This month, we would like to offer sincere congratulations to October's Students of the Month: Katie Connelly from our morning class, and Faith Wisehart from our afternoon session. Thank you, ladies, for being such great examples to other students and for what we do here. Congratulations to our ASB reps and Student Ambassadors! These students will be working with different staff members here at NEWTECH, to continue making our school and programs we offer the best they can be!
